AMO (American Mathematics Olympiad)

Overview

The American Mathematics Olympiad (AMO) is a division of the Math Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools, USA (MOEMS), and is one of the country's oldest and most prestigious primary and secondary school math competitions.

In ASEAN and Greater China, the Singapore International Math Contests Centre (SIMCC) is the major organiser of AMO (China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan).

Objective

- To develop a passion for mathematics and a desire to learn more about it.
- To introduce important Mathematical concepts
- To teach important problem-solving strategies
- To improve mathematical flexibility in problem-solving
- To provide people with the satisfaction, excitement, and thrill of overcoming obstacles.
- To provide students with access to US university scholarships and educational opportunities

(3 points each)
Total: 45 points
Section B
5 Open-Ended Questions
(5 points each)
Total: 25 points
Section C
5 Open-Ended Questions
(6 points each)
Total: 30 points
Total: 100 points
(no calculators allowed)
(no points deducted from wrong responses)

Awards

  • All participants will receive an e-certificate.
  • The top 40% of the participants will receive a physical certificate and a medal.
  • The top 40% of winners will be invited to compete in the SIMOC 2023, which will be held in July 2023.
  • The top 20% of winners are invited to compete in STEAM Ahead 2023—the IJMO, which will be held in December 2023.
